Non healing or chronic wounds affect a large number of people in our country. They are responsible for considerable pain, suffering and loss of function. Without proper treatment, wounds can become infected and patients may lose limbs or even worse, loss of life.
Chronic wound:
A wound that has not improved after one month
A leg or foot ulcer resulting from poor circulation
A non-healing incision or injury
A sore caused by sustained pressure
In many cases, chronic wounds are a symptom of another clinical condition such as diabetes, poor circulation and sometimes cancer. Some wounds, such as pressure ulcers occur in patients who are immobile from an illness or disability. Chronic wounds are unlikely to heal without medical intervention.
Our physicians will:
Identify conditions that contribute to wound development and impaired healing
Complete a thorough wound assessment
Provide comprehensive wound management and ongoing evaluation
Provide patient education and coordination of care among health care providers
